Polyurethane (PU) foam core materials are renowned for their excellent thermal insulation properties and high strength. The PU foam is hard in texture, lightweight and moisture-proof, making these panels highly suitable for use in cold storage facilities, refrigerated trucks, and buildings requiring temperature control. After being treated with flame retardant, they also possess good fire resistance.

The honeycomb-shaped core material has an extremely high strength-to-weight ratio and rigidity due to its hexagonal unit structure. They are usually made of aluminum, paper, or fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP). Aluminum honeycomb core materials have excellent impact resistance and are used in the transportation sector (such as in the interiors of aircraft and ship bulkheads). Paper honeycomb core materials have their moisture-proof performance enhanced by being coated with resin, and they offer high cost-effectiveness and are often used in non-structural applications, such as furniture or packaging. FRP honeycomb core materials combine the structural advantages of the honeycomb with the corrosion resistance of FRP, making them highly suitable for use in marine or chemical processing environments.

Wood cores are valued for their high strength, low density, and natural sustainability. They offer excellent impact resistance and are commonly used in high-performance applications such as boat hulls, racing car bodies, and aerospace components. However, they are more expensive than foam cores and require protection from moisture.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam is an economical main material with moderate insulation performance. It is lightweight, easy to process, and has a low water absorption rate. As the main material for panels, EPS is commonly used in non-critical insulation applications, such as warehouse, agricultural buildings, and wall decorations of temporary structures. However, compared with panels made of polyurethane (PU) or polyisocyanurate (PIR) as the main material, its compressive strength is lower, and it may deform under heavy loads.
