Is Your Understanding Of Unsaturated Resins Still Superficial?
Sep 13, 2023
What is unsaturated resin?
Unsaturated resin is a thermosetting resin, which is a polymer compound containing unsaturated double bonds generated by the polycondensation reaction of dibasic acid and dihydric alcohol. Thermosetting resin is very common in life. It can be said that it can be seen in all aspects of daily life, such as doors, windows, road signs, etc. In fact, the wide application of unsaturated resin is also due to its price: unsaturated resin is cheap. Unsaturated resin is one of the raw materials of FRP resin. With unsaturated resin, FRP resin will be more widely used.

Why does unsaturated resin turn yellow?
Unsaturated resins will turn yellow when exposed to ultraviolet rays. Mainly because it contains benzene ring elements inside. When the aromatic compound component is manufactured, if the temperature is high, the thermal oxygen phenomenon will continue to slow down, so the unsaturated resin will turn yellow.
In addition, when unsaturated resin is manufactured and produced, due to insufficient sealing inside the device, the material will be exposed to oxygen from the outside. When the unsaturated polyester molecules in the unsaturated resin come into contact with air, a chemical reaction will occur. If the thermal oxygen of unsaturated resin is reduced, the entire resin will turn yellow.
